Unemployment Figures Reach Record Highs

16th November 2011: The number of young people unemployed in the UK has risen to over one million in the last three months. The total stands at 1.02 million people between the ages of 16-24 are unemployed. This figure includes 286,000 students in full time education, including some of the top universities in the UK, looking for work.

There is a shortage of jobs in London for students, meaning that many students are struggling to financially survive, and scholarships for international students are more important than ever. There is the worry that without a part time job, students will struggle to pay rent, especially with prices increasing for student accommodation in London and Manchester student homes. Already high international student accommodation prices are only getting higher in many areas.

Between July and September the number of young people out of work rose by 67,000, which is the highest since records began 19 years ago. This is mainly due to students finishing university in June and then not having a job lined up until September at the earliest. Hundreds of thousands of students finish courses at colleges in London, top business schools in the UK and English courses in London and still cannot find a job.
