The Company:
Our client is a leading plastic moulding company that has benefitted from recent investment and has an excellent pipeline of projects to support growth objectives. The role of Design Engineer has been created to ensure a fast technical response to customer requirements and support the company’s strategy to widen its product portfolio.

Primary role:
Conceptualise, design and develop new products and modify existing products to meet customer requirements. Lead changes from standard to bespoke products. Responsible for all aspects of design including product manufacturability and product validation and quality. This is a great opportunity for a Design Engineer who enjoys a challenge and thrives on problem solving. It is essential to have a commercial mind-set and ensure a balance between designing for the customer and also taking account of cost to manufacture.

Responsibilities:
⦁ Create production designs in 2D & 3D to meet customer and internal specifications, considering project goals in the area of cost, quality and time lines
⦁ Create component and assembly drawings for internal and external use
⦁ Organise and attend project meetings internally and with customers
⦁ Lead DFMEA activities and ensures that DFMEA is up-to-date throughout the projects
⦁ Provides cost estimate requests and technical data so that sourcing procedures
⦁ Document & track all costs incurred on projects vs available budget and ensure expenditure is correctly billed to orders
⦁ Track time spent on activities weekly
⦁ Evaluate the company’s present design processes, software and capability. Making recommendations to the board for any necessary improvements

The Person:
⦁ Good education level in product design – HND/Degree
⦁ Experienced in plastics – particularly rotational moulding or large surface area plastic injection moulding
⦁ Technical problem solving aptitude using an innovative approach to ensure customer needs are met
⦁ Commercially minded, understanding the cost and budget parameters
⦁ Logical mind-set and analytical approach
⦁ Self-motivated and driven to get tasks done
⦁ Well organized and efficient approach to managing multiple design projects
⦁ ‘Can do’ mentality
⦁ Attention to detail
⦁ Strong positive communicator to both internal and external stakeholders
