Role: Graduate Building Surveyor

Location: Based at our Head Office in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Staffordshire

Starting Date: As soon as possible

An opportunity exists to join a growing and vibrant private practice as a Graduate Building Surveyor.

* Dilapidations

* Design and Commercial Project Management

* Acquisition Surveys & Due Diligence

Our headquarters are based right in the heart of the country - in Staffordshire - and we also have offices in Manchester, Birmingham, and London, so we able to offer a nationwide service outstanding, professional, co-ordinated service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will perform many of the following tasks, initially in assisting senior colleagues with increased independence as experience grows

Ensuring that projects are completed on budget and to schedule

Advising clients on schemes and projects and determining requirements

Preparing scheme designs and costings, programmes for completion of projects and specification of works

Preparing documents for tender and advising on appointing contractors, designs and procurement routes

Determining the condition of existing buildings, identifying and analysing defects, including proposals for repair

Advising on energy efficiency, environmental impact and sustainable construction

Advising on the preservation/conservation of historic buildings

Advising on management and supervision of maintenance of buildings

Dealing with planning applications and advising on property legislation and building regulations

Assessing and designing buildings to meet the needs of people with disabilities

Advising on construction design and management regulations

Negotiating dilapidations (when there is a legal liability for a property’s state of disrepair)

Carrying out feasibility studies

Advising on the health and safety aspects of buildings

Advising on boundary disputes and party wall procedures

Preparing insurance assessments and claims

Carrying out measured surveys and producing drawings on AutoCAD software

Carrying our schedule of conditions

Party wall services

The duties and responsibilities of this job description are not exhaustive, and the successful applicant will be required to perform additional duties and responsibilities over and above those defined to meet the needs of the business. The successful applicant will also need to be flexible on the hours worked to meet the pressures of achieving business targets.

Qualifications:

BSc Honours in Building Surveying or similar

Experience:

The post holder is not required to have any previous professional experience other than qualifying in an RICS accredited Building Surveying course with the above qualification or similar obtained.

Sound working knowledge of IT and common Microsoft packages (Word/Excel)

The ability to work in an office, on-site, as well as to manage and plan your own workload whilst delivering professional services

Experience of working to tight timescales

Business Development and Client Care awareness.

Strong communication and presentation skills (written and oral)

Proficient in AutoCAD drawing

Proficient in the use of social media

Being professional and amenable at all times

Must hold a full UK driving licence and own a car

Salary and Package

£20,000 - £27,000 plus potential additional benefits
