QA Inspector - Welded Assemblies

To perform visual, mechanical, and non-destructive test and inspection of assembled, fabricated, and purchased parts; investigate quality problems to isolate source, and initiate changes to correct problems to ensure CAPS' compliance to quality standards
JOB DUTIES:
Inspects units, piece parts, and assemblies to find defects. Collects and charts data for use of statistical process control. Researches defects to find the source of the problem. Interacts with Engineering Department for interpretation of prints and tolerances. Checks production methods against procedures and planned methods. Interacts with Production Supervisor and employees to show and explain quality needs. Recommends changes in fabrication procedures. Recommends changes to prints and/or bills of material. Designs go-no go gauges to improve production needs. Assists in the determination of the most efficient way to rework product to minimize cost and time.

The position is a specialist within the group and provides interpretation and problem solving advice to others inside and outside of the department.

Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division. The position's primary customers are internal. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, Internal Quality Certification, etc. The position establishes quality standards consistent with overall quality goals.

Limited travel required (Less than 5% of working time).

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years of job-related experience are typically required. Position initiates communication with others outside of immediate work group to work on new ideas or to counsel others, etc. The ability to listen to others is important in this job.

Welding and fabrication experience. Ideally, holding or has held a CSWIP welding inspector’s certificate
Metrology skills to allow mechanical components to be competently measured, understanding geometric tolerancing and drawing symbols
Hydrostatic and or pneumatic pressure testing
Electro-mechanical assembly experience
