London Ambassadors; Volunteer for the 2012 Olympic Games
London Needs You in 2012
London Mayor Boris Johnson is looking for 8,000 London Ambassadors to welcome visitors from all over the world to the capital during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The London Ambassador programme is looking for volunteers with fantastic people skills, who are passionate about the capital and want to tell millions of people about the hidden treasures that makes London one of the best capital cities in the world.
The Details
To be a London Ambassador, you'll need to commit to six consecutive days of volunteering. Each daily shift will last for five hours. In return, you’ll receive:
- free travel within zones 1-6 for each day you volunteer
- food and refreshments during your shift (£5 per day)

Training and Support
Throughout the programme, you'll be given all the training and help you need to make sure you're ready to welcome the world to London. Before your first shift, you'll attend three training sessions to prepare you for your time as a London Ambassador. For example, you'll get the chance to:
- discover more about your chosen location
- learn other skills, eg first aid
- find out more about the Games
- meet your team leader
During your shifts, your team leader will be available to answer your questions and help you deal with any difficult situations.
