World University Rankings

World university rankings tables are a useful tool to get an idea of the academic reputation that UK universities have internationally. If you are planning to leave the UK after studying then it is obviously important that the university you choose is well respected not just within Britain, but also throughout the world.

There are a number of different world university ranking tables released each year and they can have quite different results. The three different tables below will give you an idea of the most highly respected universities in the world, but also how much each ranking system differs.

Times Higher Education 2011-12 World Universities Rankings

The Times Higher Education magazine is one of the most well known education authorities on higher education published in the UK. Each year, they produce some of the most respected British university rankings tables, as well as this global one. The rankings are based on a number of different factors, including the staff-to-student ratio, research income, PhDs awarded and the citation of research. It also rewards those with a high proportion of international staff and students, thus encouraging truly international universities. You can see the Top 20 World Universities below.
