A Modest Proposal

Last week, I read an article on a Slovak blogging website about involuntary organ donations in China. After reading it I have to conclude that what is going on in the world nowadays is worse even than the events of the WWII. Although, maybe we are just better informed...

The article outlines how they kill prisoners in order to use them as organ donors. It is not only those sentenced to the capital punishment or the victims of accidents. Often, people in labour camps disappear under mysterious circumstances.

A year ago, when I visited Oxford, I saw a Chinese exhibition about the Falun Gong. It is a movement associated with meditation and the philosophy of harmony and independence, and its growing popularity is a needle in the eye of the establishment. The members are being persecuted, tortured and executed, and their organs are offered for transplants. There was a painting of an organ harvesting ‘operation' (above)...pretty awful.

Watch Skydivers Jump from Burning Plane After Crash

The amazing video footage below was shot from the helmets of five skydivers. It was supposed to capture their triumphant and serene fall from a plane 12,000 feet above the ground.

Instead it caught a mid-air crash between the two planes carrying them, one of which burst into flames. The skydivers are thrown from the plane, though miraculously they all survived unharmed.

The 5 Strangest Stories of the Week

We've gathered together some of the very oddest, funniest and most interesting stories of the week from around the web. And it has been a pretty strange week. Enjoy.

1)World's First Burger Grown in a Lab

We really are living in the future. Scientists have taken cells from cows in Holland, grown them into muscle and then combined that to make the world's first man-made beef burger-which was then cooked and eaten live on TV.

However the question everyone was asking, is does it actually taste like a burger? Opinions on the matter ranged from, "It's a very good start", to "there is quite some intense taste; it's close to meat, but it's not that juicy".

To make the story that bit more odd, it turns out that the mystery backer who has invested £215,000 into the project is actually the co-founder of Google. Whether you think it is the solution to world hunger, or a horrible experiment that shouldn't be repeated, it has certainly got people talking.

Why You Should Hire a Private Plane for a Wedding...

On Saturday I attended a wedding. It was the first wedding in our family after a series of funerals and everyone was looking forward to it. And it was nice- a bit of Spanish fiesta mixed with Hungarian folklore and meals.

However, after midnight, everyone wanted to get home. The police would not be interested in the fact that you are more likely to be run over by a car when walking drunk, than cause an accident whilst drink driving. Common practice is that one passenger from each car keeps away from alcohol to be able to drive the others home. But drowsy drivers can be just as dangerous as drunk drivers.Actually, it does not matter whether your reactions are slowed down by alcohol or fatigue.

However, people will always choose to drive tired due to the legal reasons. There is zero alcohol tolerance in Slovakia and if you exceed 1.0 (which is likely after a wedding where the home-distilled spirit is a must), you can end up in prison.

Perils of Flying

Getting home from the wedding was one thing, but some of the guests will soon have to get back to Spain, and judging by recent news there are further dangers lurking in the air. The same Saturday as the wedding, 307 people on board a flight from Seoul to San Francisco went through a terrifying experienced.
