26 UK Universities in Deficit

A new report has revealed that one in five British universities are in deficit. Whilst investigating the financial health of the Higher Education sector, accountants Grant Thornton found that 26 universities are in deficit, and almost half are below the recommended minimum of surplus. However, overall, the news is good, with total surplus up from £345m to £811m.

University Family Traditions

More and more universities in the UK are seeing generations from the same family attending. Whilst it has always been traditional for sons to follow their father to the same college at Oxbridge, this trend has now spread to other British universities. Three families have revealed the differences and similarities between when the parents went to university and now.

University Spaces Fill up in Record Time

The spaces left at universities after the initial intake of students, called 'Clearing', are being filled faster than ever before. Nearly a third more of them have been taken than at this time last year, with almost 18,000 having been filled by Monday morning. Overall, there have been around 10,000 more university applications than there were last year, but the number of places available has remained unchanged.

Fans Go Mad for the iPad 2 Launch

Today is a very special day for some people in Britain. It is one of the few days of the year when Apple iPad fans can truly show their love for the gadget. For today, at 5pm, the iPad 2 is being launched in the UK. 

Outside the Regent Street Apple store, the queue has been steadily building, with the most dedicated of fans prepared to wait an amazing 33 hours. That's right, some have been queuing since 7.30am YESTERDAY just to be one of the first in the country to get their hands on the latest gadget.

We went to speak to a few of these fans to see what makes them do such a thing. Are they dedicated? Mad? Or simply very bored? You can make your own mind up from the video above.
