University College London (UCL)

University College London (or UCL for short) is the largest individual member of the University of London and in 2010 was ranked the fourth best university in the world by Times Higher Education. It is advertised as ‘London’s Global University’ and over a third of its 22,000 students come from outside the UK.

International students can choose from a huge range of courses at UCL, and are offered many opportunities for further international study through strong academic ties to other universities. What’s more, a degree from UCL is highly regarded by both UK and international employers.

Based in the centre of London, UCL students are immersed in a melting pot of cultures, ideas and opportunities. The main UCL buildings are within walking distance of the British Museum, the West End and Oxford Street shopping to name just a few local attractions.

University of Birmingham

The University of Birmingham is a campus based university based in the UK’s second largest city. It is regularly placed in the top 20 universities in the UK in rankings tables and offers international students excellent academic, social and sporting opportunities.

Birmingham offers a huge list of different courses for students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level whilst also providing opportunities in foundation courses and distance learning. Through strong ties with the commercial world, the Business courses that the university teaches have an especially good reputation.

Students studying at Birmingham live on a university campus that is just outside the centre of the city of Birmingham. This means students get the benefit of an attractive campus that contains all the university buildings in one place, but also all the advantages of living in a city.

University of Bedfordshire

The University of Bedfordshire is located in the towns of Luton and Bedford, not far from London. Despite only being founded in 2006, it is hugely popular with international students who now make up almost a third of the university’s whole student population.

There is a large selection of courses at Bedfordshire in a wide range of subject areas. Though the reputations of the courses offered at the university vary, one particularly respected area of Bedfordshire’s is the ‘Journalism and Marketing’ department which is ranked second best in the UK.

The University is only about 40 minutes travel away from the centre of London by train, whilst the towns within the county of Bedfordshire have beautiful countryside and a busy nightlife, making it easy to relax or be entertained.

University of Warwick

Although only fifty years old, the University of Warwick has quickly grown into a large campus university. In the rankings tables Warwick is frequently placed in the top five universities in the UK, and places great importance on improving international relations.

Warwick offers a huge range of different courses for international students, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. However, one of the university’s particular strengths is the Business school, thanks to the close links that the university has with the international business community.

A large part of a Warwick student’s life is the university campus where all the university buildings are within a few minutes walk of each other. The campus contains the largest arts centre in the UK outside of London, which offers a cinema, theatre and art gallery, whilst the Student Union offers nights out almost every day of the week.

University of Cambridge

  • Formed in 1209, it is one of the oldest universities in the world

The University of Cambridge is considered one of the best universities not just in the UK, but in the world. It is split into 31 colleges spread throughout the beautiful city of Cambridge, and almost a quarter of its students are from abroad.

Students can choose from a wide range of academic courses in both arts and science. The courses are taught in an almost unique way, as students attend small weekly teaching groups called supervisions where they discuss the week’s work with their tutor and just one or two other students.

Life at Cambridge is impacted by the University’s college system. Students live, eat and study at their college, and much of a Cambridge student’s social and sporting life also revolves around their college, which acts as a small community within the larger university.
